ATTR. THOMAS AND TOWNSEND COMPTON, LARGE PEWTER WARMING CHARGER, LONDON, CA. FIRST QUARTER 19TH CEMTURY 18" x 1 ½" Large pewter warming charger with wide flared border, having very worn semi-legible marks to base and three touchmarks: one with horse and bird above it (attr: partnership between Thomas Compton and his son Townsend Compton of London), second with lion rampant with a crown and having very worn mark with partially legible words that appear to read “G E L …[?]” and London mark in cartouches. Provenance: old private collection, Sewickley, PA, acquired at auction in 1994, by descent in the family to the current owner.
